MediaTek strengthens Artificial Intelligence with its new Helio P90 processor: The Taiwanese company MediaTek has presented this Thursday its new high-end processor “Helio P90” which comes as an improvement to its previous model, especially for Artificial Intelligence among its new specifications. The new MediaTek processor will use Artificial Intelligence in the improvement of graphic applications and will have a variation in its cores to increase its power, as reported on the company’s website.
The Helio P90 represents two 2.2GHz Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 2.0GHz cores. This is complemented by a Powerful GM IMG Powerful 9446 GPU, which is 50% extra graphics power compared to the GPU above, and supports screens with a 21:9 format at Full HD + resolution(2520×1080).
The company has also incorporated Artificial Intelligence into its new processor, the APU 2.0 artificial intelligence solution, with up to four times more processing power than the previous generation of processors, as indicated by MediaTek.
The AI in this chip allows the tracking of the positions and movements of objects in real time for augmented reality, and its application for example, in 3D avatars.
Supports facial recognition systems, as well as Google Lens, ARCore. This technology will allow the operation of applications or tasks while executing multiple functions related to the AI at the same time.
All improvements in AI will also apply to photographs. This chip will process images of up to 448 megapixels with a single camera or in a configuration of 24+16 megapixels in double cameras.
In addition, all photographs will be improved with a faster focus, noise reduction and will be analyzed by artificial intelligence to offer the best result.
MediaTek has maintained a manufacturing process of 12 nanometers in its processor, although some of its competitors, such as Qualcomm or Samsung, are already at 7nm and 8nm, respectively. The Helio P90 processor is expected to be available for mobile devices worldwide in the first half of 2019.
